What's the Difference? Type 201, 302 and 304 Stainless Steel | Eruis

January 12, 2023

201SS:201 stainless steel steel, with a certain acid resistance, alkali resistance, high density, polishing without bubbles, no pinhole, and other characteristics, is the production of a variety of watchcase, watchband cover quality materials. Mainly used for decorative pipe, industrial pipe, and some shallow tensile products.

302SS: Stainless steel belongs to Austenitic type steel, with good corrosion resistance, heat resistance, low-temperature strength, and mechanical properties, good stamping, bending and other thermal processing, no heat treatment hardening phenomenon.

304SS: 304 stainless steel can withstand a high temperature 800 degrees Celsius, with good processing performance, and high toughness. Widely used in industrial and furniture decoration industry and food and medical industry. 304 is a kind of universal stainless steel, which is widely used in the production of equipment and parts requiring good comprehensive performance (corrosion resistance and molding). In order to maintain the corrosion resistance inherent in stainless steel, the steel must contain at least 18% chromium and at least 8% nickel. 304 stainless steel is a grade of stainless steel produced according to ASTM standards in the United States.

What is the difference between 201 and 304 stainless steel?

Stainless steel plates that were commonly used were divided into two types: 201and 304. In fact, the components are different. 201 stainless steel contains 15% chromium and 5% nickel. And 304 stainless steel contains 18% chromium and 9% nickel in standard. In comparison, the content of nickel and chromium in 304 is higher than that in 201, so the rust resistance of 304 is much better than that of 201. However, because 304 contains more nickel and chromium than 201, the price of 304 is much more expensive than that of 201.

Because of the different content of nickel elements, the corrosion resistance of 201 is not as good as that of 304; What’s more, the carbon content of 201 is higher than that of 304, so 201 is harder and more brittle than 304. 304 has better toughness: If you use a hard cutting knife on the surface of 201, there will generally have a very obvious scratch, however, the scratch on 304 will not be very obvious.

Eruis slaughter equipment in both material and technology is excellent. It’s made of high-quality stainless steel 304. 304 is a kind of universal stainless steel, which is widely used in the production of equipment and parts requiring good comprehensive performance (corrosion resistance and molding).

We have strict and perfect processing technology: IQC, Laying-off, Splicing, Welding, and Cleaning, a total of 14 processes. Upon welding this alloy it is necessary to anneal the alloy. The performance of a post-weld annealing treatment aids in the restoration of the material’s corrosion resistance properties. Usually, welding without the use of an annealing treatment causes a loss in corrosion resistance properties by sensitization to intergranular corrosion. However, because the content of carbon is lower in comparison to grade 302, the chances of intergranular corrosion are lower.

Eruis has achieved ISO9001 International Quality Certification, and ISO14001 Environmental Management System Certification, and also obtained CE, SGS, IAF, and other certificates. Whether you need a scalder, a plucker, or a poultry slaughtering line, Eruis can provide you with the best equipment and service!
